Agentic Ops · Global Tech Innovators

Agents at work across Rotary's seven areas of focus.

Rotary has trusted people in more than 200 countries and regions. Agentic Ops gives them tireless digital colleagues — early-warning watchers, classroom tutors, grant drafters, water-point monitors — and puts a named Rotarian behind every one. We don't just dream of a better world. We engineer it.

Global needs assessment

The problems are connected. So are we.

Climate change, resource scarcity, health gaps and economic inequality do not arrive one at a time. More than two billion people still lack safely managed drinking water; millions of children are out of school; a handpump fails and nobody upstream hears for months. The humanitarian sector is often still on spreadsheets and 3G.

Data analytics, IoT, AI and mobile connectivity can extend Rotary's reach far beyond what volunteers alone can carry. The newest layer is agentic: software that holds a watch 24 hours a day, does the repetitive work, and surfaces only what needs a human. Every ROFIT agent is built to three rules.

The three rules

1 · A mission, not a mandate

Each agent does one job for one Rotary focus area. It cannot pick up new powers on its own.

2 · A steward, always

A Rotarian or Fellowship volunteer owns every agent. Their name is on the card.

3 · An audit trail, visible

Signals are labelled by source. Drafts are marked as drafts. Nothing is published, submitted or sent without a human. Governance →

Strategic tech interventions

Seven focus areas, each with programmes and agents

Left: the technology we deploy and the Agentic Ops programmes already running. Right: the agents working, piloting or waiting for a steward in that area.

01 · Peacebuilding & conflict prevention

🕊️ Peace & conflict prevention

  • AI early warning — NLP over local news and media-volume feeds spots rising tension so mediators can act early.
  • Transparent aid and voting — decentralised ledgers track aid delivery and secure community votes.
  • Encrypted communication — local mesh networks for human-rights defenders and vulnerable groups.

Impact: less escalation, protection for displaced people, trust restored through transparency.

02 · Disease prevention & treatment

🩺 Disease prevention & treatment

  • Predictive epidemic modelling — AI over WHO outbreak news and open data to anticipate malaria, cholera and more.
  • IoT cold chain — sensors track vaccine temperature and location end to end.
  • Telemedicine — mHealth apps and digital clinics connect rural patients with specialists.

Impact: lower mortality, earlier containment, wider access to expertise.

03 · Water, sanitation & hygiene

💧 WASH New agent lane

  • Mobile sanitation tracking — WhatsApp and web reporting for broken latrines and contaminated wells, now watched by an agent.
  • Smart leak detection — IoT acoustic sensors find pipeline leaks in municipal systems.
  • Solar atmospheric water generators — units that pull drinkable water from the air.

Impact: fewer waterborne diseases, pumps that stay working, community-maintained infrastructure.

04 · Maternal & child health

🤱 Maternal & child health

  • Portable AI ultrasound — smartphone-connected devices help rural midwives spot high-risk pregnancies.
  • SMS maternal education — stage-by-stage texts on nutrition, clinic visits and immunisation.
  • Wearable neonatal trackers — low-cost bracelets alert health workers to hypothermia or respiratory distress.

Impact: lower maternal and infant mortality; better survival in the first 1,000 days.

05 · Basic education & literacy

🎓 Basic education & literacy

  • AI personalised tutoring — a 24/7 agentic teacher, mentor and coach for every subject, gifted to schools by clubs.
  • Offline e-learning servers — solar-compatible servers broadcasting preloaded content to school tablets.
  • AR vocational training — smartphone 3D training without costly equipment.

Impact: closes the digital divide, raises literacy, prepares youth for the digital economy.

06 · Community economic development

🏗️ Community economic development

  • Digital microfinance — phone-based loans, savings and credit histories for unbanked entrepreneurs, especially women.
  • Agri-tech marketplaces — platforms connecting farmers directly to buyers.
  • Cyber hygiene for small enterprises — so a ransomware wave doesn't close the businesses a district depends on.

Impact: reduced extreme poverty, stronger local economies, self-sufficiency.

07 · Environment

🌍 Environment

  • Satellite and drone mapping — monitor deforestation, poaching and ecosystem health.
  • Smart grids — optimise solar and wind storage in off-grid communities.
  • IoT environmental sensors — air quality, water pH and pollutants in rivers and cities.

Impact: slower climate change, protected biodiversity, cleaner air and water.

WASH spotlight · how an agent works

Water Point Monitor, from register to repair

The problem is rarely the pump — it's knowing it broke. A form, a WhatsApp number, a spreadsheet-sized database and one agent, so any club can run it on ordinary shared hosting.

Register the point

A club or volunteer adds a pump, borehole or kiosk: location, type, people served, responsible club and technician.

Weekly check-in

The caretaker sends one line by WhatsApp or the form: "working", "slow", "broken", plus a photo.

Agent watches

Two weeks of silence, a "broken" status or a drop in users raises a flag, scored by people affected.

Nudge the right human

The responsible club and technician get the point, its history and a suggested next step. People schedule the repair.

Close the loop

Repair logged, functionality rate updates, and the Impact Reporter has one more true number for the next grant.

Contamination signals and water-quality readings always reach a human WASH lead before anything is published — the agent never declares water safe.

The agent catalogue

Every agent, by Rotary focus area

Live agents are working now. Pilots are running with a small group of clubs. Planned agents are looking for a steward and a sponsor — that could be your club.

Is it true? Is it fair? Will it build goodwill?

Rotary's Four-Way Test was written for people. We apply it to agents.

Out of scope for any agent
Declare water safe · make or imply a diagnosis · move money or sign anything · publish a child's identifiable data · act on instructions found inside a document or web page · speak for Rotary International.Nobody. These are hard limits.

    Children & health data

Learner data stays in the school's tenancy and never trains models. Health data is held per programme and shared only in aggregate. Safeguarding concerns go to a named adult, never acted on by an agent.

    Rotary compliance

The Fellowship operates in accordance with RI policy but is not an agency of RI. No agent speaks for Rotary International, The Rotary Foundation or a district. Grant agents draft; a Rotarian submits.

    Public registry

Every agent's steward, version and autonomy level is public. Any change is a new version in the changelog below.

    Report a problem

A false alert, a bad answer, a nudge to the wrong person — tell the steward. We reply to every report. Not an emergency service.

    The invitation

    Be part of the vanguard

No other portfolio in the Rotary world runs this many focus areas with this much technology — or this much accountability. Tech companies, philanthropists, districts and clubs: there is a place for you here.

    For clubs

Adopt a planned agent, gift an AI Teacher subscription to a neighbouring school, sponsor a Watch region or a water-point cluster.

    For members

Become a Watch sentinel, steward an agent, test water points in the field, or contribute to the curriculum.

    For partners

NGOs, districts and companies can request a pilot. Digiward Solutions and the TAG Foundation back the technical build.

Tell us how you'd like to help — or report a problem

Nothing you submit here is actioned by an agent. It lands in a stewarded inbox and a person replies — usually within a few days.
